♦ “pañc-ime, bhikkhave, dhammā an-āyussā. |
“Five-(of)-these, *********, things impede-vitality. |
katame pañca? |
What five? |
A-sappāya-kārī hoti, |
Doing what is un-suitable, |
sappāye mattaṃ na jānāti, |
not knowing moderation in what is suitable, |
A-pariṇata-bhojī ca hoti, |
eating food unfit for consumption, |
Dus-sīlo ca, |
Poor-morals **, |
Pāpa-mitto ca. |
Bad-friends **. |
ime kho, bhikkhave, pañca dhammā an-āyussā. |
These are the five things that impede longevity. |

These five things promote longevity. |
katame pañca? |
What five? |
S-appāya-kārī hoti, |
Doing what is suitable, |
S-appāye mattaṃ jānāti, |
knowing moderation in what is suitable, |
Pariṇata-bhojī ca hoti, |
eating food fit for consumption, |
sīlavā ca, |
morals **, |
kalyāṇa-mitto ca. |
{and} good-friends. |
ime kho, bhikkhave, pañca dhammā āyussā”ti. |
These are, *********, five things [that promote] longevity.” |
