“cattār'-imāni, bhikkhave, ariya-saccāni. |
[There are] Four-(of)-these, *********, noble-truths. |
katamāni cattāri? |
Which four? |
dukkhaṃ ariya-saccaṃ, |
suffering (as a) noble-truth, |
dukkha-samudayaṃ ariya-saccaṃ, |
suffering's-origin (as a) noble-truth, |
dukkha-nirodhaṃ ariya-saccaṃ, |
suffering's-cessation (as a) noble-truth, |
dukkha-nirodha-gāminī paṭipadā ariya-saccaṃ. |
suffering's-cessation,-going-to-it, (the)way-of-practice, (as a) noble-truth |
“katamañca, bhikkhave, |
“And-what, monks, |
dukkhaṃ ariya-saccaṃ? |
(is) suffering (as a) noble-truth? |
‘cha ajjhattikāni āyatanānī’ |
(the) six internal [sense]-bases, |
tissa vacanīyaṃ. |
it should be said. |
katamāni cha? |
which six?- |
cakkh-āyatanaṃ, sot-āyatanaṃ, |
(the) eye-base, ear-base, |
ghān-āyatanaṃ, jivh-āyatanaṃ, |
Nose-base, tongue-base, |
kāy-āyatanaṃ, man-āyatanaṃ — |
Body-base, mind-base – |
idaṃ vuccati, bhikkhave, |
This (is) called, *********, |
dukkhaṃ ariya-saccaṃ. |
suffering (as a) noble-truth. |
“katamañca, bhikkhave, |
"and-what, monks, (is) |
Dukkha-samudayaṃ ariya-saccaṃ? |
sufferings-origination (as a) noble-truth? |
yāyaṃ taṇhā ponob-bhavikā |
whatever craving [which leads to] renewed-existence, |
nandi-rāga-sahagatā |
delight-(and)-lust-(together)-with |
tatra-tatr-ābhi-nandinī, |
here-and-there-[seeking]-delight |
seyyathidaṃ — |
that is - |
kāma-taṇhā, |
sensual-pleasures-craving, |
bhava-taṇhā, |
existence-craving, |
vi-bhava-taṇhā. |
non-existence-craving, |
idaṃ vuccati, bhikkhave, |
this (is) called, **********, |
dukkha-samudayaṃ ariya-saccaṃ. |
sufferings-origination (as a) noble-truth. |

“And-what, monks, (is) |
dukkha-nirodhaṃ ariya-saccaṃ? |
suffering's-cessation (as a) noble-truth? |
yo tassā-yeva taṇhāya |
any such-**** craving, |
asesa-virāga-nirodho |
(its) remainderless-fading-away-(and)-cessation, |
cāgo paṭinissaggo |
(its) giving-up, relinguishment, |
mutti an-ālayo — |
freedom [from it], un-attachment [from it] - |
idaṃ vuccati,bhikkhave, |
this (is) called, *********, |
dukkha-nirodhaṃ ariya-saccaṃ. |
suffering's-cessation (as a) noble-truth. |

dukkha-nirodha-gāminī paṭipadā ariya-saccaṃ? |
suffering's-cessation,-going-to-it, (the)way-of-practice, (as a) noble-truth? |
ayam-eva ariyo aṭṭh-aṅgiko maggo, |
it-(is)-this noble eight-fold path, |
seyyathidaṃ — |
that-is - |
sammā-diṭṭhi sammā-saṅkappo |
Right view, right resolve, |
sammā-vācā sammā-kammanto sammā-ājīvo |
right speech, right action, right livelihood, |
sammā-vāyāmo sammā-sati sammā-samādhi. |
right effort, right mindfulness, right concentration. |
idaṃ vuccati,bhikkhave, |
This (is) called, *********, |
dukkha-nirodha-gāminī paṭipadā ariya-saccaṃ. |
suffering's-cessation,-going-to-it, (the)way-of-practice, (as a) noble-truth. |
imāni kho, bhikkhave, |
These indeed, monks, (are the) |
cattāri ariya-saccāni. |
four noble-truths. |
“tasmātiha, bhikkhave, |
“Therefore, monks, |
‘idaṃ dukkhan’ti |
‘This (is) suffering.’ |
yogo karaṇīyo, |
an-exertion [to comprehend this] (you)-must-carry-out. |
‘ayaṃ dukkha-samudayo’ti |
‘This (is) suffering's-origin.’ |
yogo karaṇīyo, |
an-exertion [to comprehend this] (you)-must-carry-out. |
‘ayaṃ dukkha-nirodho’ti |
‘This (is) suffering's-cessation.’ |
yogo karaṇīyo, |

‘ayaṃ dukkha-nirodha-gāminī paṭipadā’ti |
‘This (is) suffering's-cessation,-going-to-it, (the)way-of-practice, (as a) noble-truth.’” |
