šš ~32min, AN 11: 1-10 š¤šļø
AN 11.1 Kim-atthiya: what-purpose?: same as AN 10.1, except nibbida-viraga split into two steps
AN 11.2 CetanÄkaraį¹Ä«ya [Cetana]: expanded parallel of 10.2
AN 11.3 UpanisÄ 1: expanded parallel of 10.3
AN 11.4 UpanisÄ 2: expanded parallel of 10.4
AN 11.5 UpanisÄ 3: expanded parallel of 10.5
AN 11.6 Vyasana [Byasana]: expanded version AN 10.88
AN 11.7 AN 11.7-8 SaĆ±Ć±Ä 1 [SaƱƱÄ]: a slight variation of AN 10.6 and 10.7. Weird! In the AN 10 verisons, sariputta gives a different answer than the Buddha. In this AN 11.7, he gives the same answer as the buddha. Did Ananda ask them the same questions on multiple occasions, or did disciples who recorded these remember things slightly differently?
AN 11.8 AN 11.9 Manasi-kÄra: attention: like 10.6, but instead ofer perception, attention is the active element. It is in this way, Änanda, that a bhikkhu could obtain such a state of concentration that he would not attend to the eye and forms, the ear and sounds, ... the other world; he would not attend to anything seen, heard, sensed, cognized, reached, sought after, and examined by the mind, but he would still be attentive.ā
AN 11.9 AN 11.10 Sandha [Saddha]: name of monk: simile of horse that mis-meditates (nij-jhana). āMeditate like a thoroughbred, Sandha, not like a wild colt. The samadhi of good monk is the same samadhi of the previous 2 suttas, implying that samadhi is also a type of "jhana"
AN 11.10 AN 11.11 MoranivÄpa : peakcock sanctuary: āBrahmÄ Sanaį¹kumÄra, too, spoke this verse:
76āāThe khattiya is the best among people
for those whose standard is the clan,
but one accomplished in true knowledge and conduct
is best among devas and humans.ā

AN 11.11 AN 11.12 MahÄnÄma 1: name of disciple: partial parallel for AN 6.10. 6 recollections (buddha, dhamma...)in 7sb formula to get samadhi.

Anu-s-sati (re-collection) Vagga 2

AN 11.12 AN 11.13 MahÄnÄma 2: very similar to 11.11
AN 11.13 AN 11.14 Nandiya
AN 11.14 AN 11.15 Subhūti
AN 11.15 AN 11.16 MettÄnisaį¹sa [MettÄ]: 11 benefits of doing metta
AN 11.16 AN 11.17 Aį¹į¹hakanÄgara [Dasama]: same as MN 52, 11 doors to deathless. 4j + 4bv + first 3 arupa. Similar to AN 9.36, attaining nirvana while in jhana
AN 11.17 AN 11.18 GopÄlaka [GopÄla]
AN 11.18 AN 11.19 SamÄdhi 1: another version of a bhikkhu could obtain such a state of concentration that he would not be percipient of earth in relation to earth; of water in relation to water;... but he would still be percipient.ā
AN 11.19 AN 11.20 SamÄdhi 2: like 11.18
AN 11.20 AN 11.21 SamÄdhi 3: like 11.18
AN 11.21 AN 11.22 SamÄdhi 4 like 11.18
