application of this principle
In an
oral tradition , where one memorizes important teachings such as
☸Dharma , the composition of the Dharma often is terse, sometimes cryptic, lending itself to ambiguity and multiple legitimate interpretations.
The principle of ‘eminently useful’, applied here would favor interpretations of Dharma that are exceeding useful, extraordinarily so such that frequent repetition, thinking about it repeatedly, even with high frequency one still finds the Dharma a timely reminder and useful to re-think.
As opposed to an interpretation of Dharma that Is legitimate, but tends to be of marginal use, or blatantly obvious that you don’t need a Buddha to point it out, and not have much usefulness if repeatedly reflected on as a mantra or reminder.
