(1. Perceives internal rūpa, sees external rūpa limited)

1. ajjhattaṃ rūpa-saññī eko bahiddhā rūpāni passati	1. With the mind percipient of the internal [five physical sense bases], he sees external forms
parittāni suvaṇṇa-dubbaṇṇāni.	that are limited, beautiful, or ugly.
	[he sees things such as realms of heaven and hell, and the denizens of those realms, or he sees accurate visions of his 31 body parts, or the body parts of other living beings.]
‘tāni abhibhuyya jānāmi passāmī’ti, evaṃ-saññī hoti.	He perceives that, “Having mastered this, I know and I see.”
idaṃ paṭhamaṃ abhibh'-āyatanaṃ.	This is the first dimension of mastery [of knowledge and vision].

(5-8 usually start with one of the 31 body parts of suitable color)

	[For the next four dimensions, the meditator can directly conjure up a visual perception of a chosen color as the ‘external form’, but the preferred way is to use one of the 31 body parts of an external being as a starting point, then focus on the dominant color of that body part. For example, bones are white, blood is red, hair is black/dark-blue, urine is yellow.]

(from his translation of MN 77) The Eight Dimensions of Mastery “Further, I have pointed out to my disciples the path of practice, practicing in line with which they develop the eight dimensions of (mental) mastery: “One percipient of form internally sees forms externally as limited, beautiful & ugly. Mastering them, he is percipient of ‘I know; I see.’ This is the first dimension of (mental) mastery. “One percipient of form internally sees forms externally as immeasurable, beautiful & ugly. Mastering them, he is percipient of ‘I know; I see.’ This is the second dimension of (mental) mastery. “One percipient of the formless internally sees forms externally as limited, beautiful & ugly. Mastering them, he is percipient of ‘I know; I see.’ This is the third dimension of (mental) mastery. “One percipient of the formless internally sees forms externally as immeasurable, beautiful & ugly. Mastering them, he is percipient of ‘I know; I see.’ This is the fourth dimension of (mental) mastery. “One percipient of the formless internally sees forms externally as blue, blue in their color, blue in their features, blue in their glow. Mastering them, he is percipient of ‘I know; I see.’ This is the sixth dimension of (mental) mastery. “One percipient of the formless internally sees forms externally as red, red in their color, red in their features, red in their glow. Just as a bandha-jīvaka-flower is red, red in its color, red in its features, red in its glow, or just as Vārāṇasī muslin, smooth on both sides, is red, red in its color, red in its features, red in its glow, in the same way, one percipient of the formless internally sees forms externally as red, red in their color, red in their features, red in their glow. Mastering them, he is percipient of ‘I know; I see.’ This is the seventh dimension of (mental) mastery. “One percipient of the formless internally sees forms externally as white, white in their color, white in their features, white in their glow. Just as the morning star is white, white in its color, white in its features, white in its glow, or just as Vārāṇasī muslin, smooth on both sides, is white, white in its color, white in its features, white in its glow, in the same way, one percipient of the formless internally sees forms externally as white, white in their color, white in their features, white in their glow. Mastering them, he is percipient of ‘I know; I see.’ This is the eighth dimension of (mental) mastery.11 “And there many of my disciples remain, having attained the perfection & culmination of direct knowledge.

AN 8.62 AN 8.63 AN 8.64 AN 8.65 AN 8.66 are all connected to a gradual 7sb☀️, samadhi sambojjhanga and using j4🌕 āneñja⚡ to exercise 6ab ⚡☸ such as divine eye, using ASND 🌕🌟‍. MN 127 and MN 128 is also connected similarly to the AN 8 set of suttas above, with anuruddha being most famous for divine eye, the samādhi in 3 ways. MN 62 and MN 140 are two of the most detailed suttas on meditation. From how adjhatta rupa (as 4 elements) is defined in there, then certainly this must mean the adjhatta rupa of 8 abhi-bh-āyatana and 8 vimokkha are referring to the meditators body of 4 elements rupa and 31 body parts. DN 2 four elements practice done on 31asb🧟‍ body parts after 4th jhana, the simile also alludes to the different color perceptions with order even matching that of 8 abhi-bh-āyatana: 'And it’s strung with a thread of blue, yellow, red, white, or golden brown.’ Also the knowing and seeing from DN 2 matches that of 8 abhi-bh-āyatana : ‘those (having been) overcome, I know, I see’, thus-(he is)-percipient. making those 8abhibhayatana unlikely to be referring to ordinary 4th jhana, but rather j4🌕 āneñja⚡ with ASND 🌕🌟‍ and thus the 6ab ⚡☸ higher knowledges easily accessible. Especially in AN 8.64 with the Buddha 'knowing and seeing' and talking to devas and refining ASND 🌕🌟‍ to be able to develop all the higher knowledges gradually in 8 ways. From the 8 vimokkha, since #3 subha is sandwiched between #4 base of infinite space, and the first two are most likely divine eye capable j4🌕 āneñja⚡, We can see SN 46.54 must be referring to 8 vimokkha. metta -> subha subha-param-āhaṃ, bhikkhave, mettācetovimuttiṃ vadāmi, I tell you, monks, awareness-release through goodwill has the beautiful as its excellence— idha-paññassa bhikkhuno uttari-vimuttiṃ appaṭivijjhato. in the case of one who has penetrated to no higher release. karuna -> infinite space mudita -> infinite consciousness upekkha -> nothingness It's possible subha of 8 vimokkha could also refer to all 4bv☮️ brahma viharas done with four jhanas, as instructed in AN 8.63 .

10 kasinas of LBT, and the 4 colors referred to in 8 abhi bha ayatana

According to commentaries of LBT, visual kasina methods and the redfined VRJ👻🥶 type “jhana” is what is meant in 10 kasinas, 8 vimokkha, and 8 abhi bha ayanata. But using a completely EBT approach, we can explain all 3 sets of practices without reference to visual kasinas at all, using the 4 elemental practices of MN 62, and different colors of 8 abhi bha ayatana cross referenced with the 4 elements of DN 2 must refer to a type of contemplation of the 31 body parts (and the various colors of the organs).
